That pretty much does the whole installation and set up.  Now, it's the tweaking that needs to be done. The loathsome nannyware that refuses to let me save txt files in certain areas, or the whining about not being the Administrator when I am.  Got the bluetooth pen and mouse set up, too. Wing  Told me that On1PhotoRaw 2018 works on his surface pro, so installed it on mine, also. Had to reset the activations as we wanted to make sure we didn't exceed the number of seats activated. You can have 5 running at one time, but if you need more, you deactivate on one computer, and activate on the other. Easy peasy!

During our Albany trip, Wing  saw first hand the issues I had been having with my Sony laptop. It works great once it's in Windows, but not joking, (and no, not asking for tech advice (been there, done that, it is what it is)  can take up to 15 minutes before I can do anything with the computer.  But once in there, it works great..most of the time. But not only that, when traveling by plane, weight matters. That laptop is heavy, taking up 3.4kgs, and I need that for the tripod.

He took us to Hardly Normal, and after some comparing different makes and models,  for trips, I will be using an i7 Surface Pro.  Spent a few hours setting it up last night.

One of the issues I have with the surface pro is the itty bitty menus. Because it has such a high DPI, programs are scaled to fit.  My choices were to use the magnifier, which annoyingly follows my mouse cursor around, or to find another way.

NERDZ ROOL! I did a bit of internet searching and found how, with a registry edit, and a simple manifest file, I can have all the programs scaled to an actual readable size.  I also tweaked the registry to get rid of those 'short cut arrows'. Never liked from way back.

Less than 1 day after I emailed Seagate about the barely over a year old drive failing, I got a response.

Dear Sandra,

Thank you for contacting Seagate Support.

I'm sorry to hear about the inconvenience you are having. Please run Seagate diagnostic tool, Seatools to determine the health of the hard drive

If there are any error found after the diagnostic test, kindly return the drive to us for warranty return.

To create a Return please kindly follow the procedure below to create an RMA before you return the hard drive to our collection center. Seagate will arrange for a replacement to be delivered back to the address you provide.

*Note: We are unable to deliver to PO Box addresses.

They provided a link for the diagnostic tool, and instructions on how to create a return 'should there be a fault'.

Answer: A 3tb Seagate Expansion Hard Drive.

I am so glad I didn't wait like Wing wanted me to do, and got the new external drive, and then copied all the data over the past few days, because the drive failed. I mean cakked it. This is the 3rd Seagate drive I've had do this, so this time, I'm not just shrugging it off. This is what I wrote to them (no, not going to hold my breath, but it needed to be done):

Dear Sir/Madam;

375 days ago, I purchased a 3tb Seagate External Drive. 7 days ago, the drive started having write errors, and making intermittent clicking sound. I ran diagnostics on it, and was shocked to see the amount of errors and overall health of the drive. Not taking any chances, I went out and got another large capacity external hard drive, but not a Seagate, and spent two days moving all my files over to the new drive. It's a damned good thing I did, because this 1 yr, and 10 old drive failed. I would have lost years of my photography and graphic work that I have built over the years. This is the 3rd Seagate that has failed after a short usage time. And what I mean by short is just barely over a year. No, not abusing the drives, not dropping them, I have battery backup surge protectors. I have 4 Western Digital external hds that are 4 years old, and Hard Drive Sentinel reports they are in perfect shape. I have two Samsung External hds that area also report back as Perfect Health.

As I bought it days over a year ago, probably won't be able to find the original sales docket. But I emails I traded back and forth with Seagate about not being able to use the drive for backing up my windows 7 machine, which led me to get another portable external HD to make a system image.

Razer DeathAdder arrived, and it fits so comfortably under my left hand. I've left (no pun intended) the Naga mouse hooked up because there are some things (games) that just can't be configured to use left handed mouse as there are macro buttons on the Naga that are game specific.

Fine control is still somewhat problematical, but is improving with daily, sometimes hourly use. I used to be left handed when I was a child, but I was 'encouraged' to be right handed by fair means (teachers made me sit on my left hand) or foul (a really hard crack across the knuckles).

Also, I've been staking out the birdbath, getting the local birds acclimated to my presence out there. Not taming them, but getting used to me just standing out there, near the front door, or the potted lime tree. Then I use my EF 100-400 lens, and have been getting clear, close shots.

Google is my friend. I did a search to see what else I could to to make my computer more left hand friendly. Like menus opening to the right rather than the left, moving the scroll bar on my browser to the left side, and left handed cursors.

I also got a reply from Razer about a left handed Naga gaming mouse. They told me it is in the works, and they will email me when they are available. Chances are they will be special order items. I did order a Razer Death Adder for lefties, which will at least be more comfortable to use than the right handed Naga mouse.

Still having issues with fine controls in photo editing programs. Luckily, I can mitigate is by using the graphics tablet and stylus.

Day two of using mouse left handed, and it still feels awkward. I'm sure I will get adept with practice, but I don't see me using it for my photo editing programs. That takes fine control. I have no idea how long it will take before I get to the point I can comfortably do fine edits. On the flip side of this awkwardness, I have found using graphics tablet/ stylus with my right hand in conjunction with using mouse with my left hand works.

Oh well, it's late and I can hear the siren call of a comfy bed with pillows.

Ordered a Razer DeathAdder for Lefties. I had tried to find a computer/tech store that had the Logitech Trackman trackball but no one had one in stock. Actually, none of the stores had any left handed or ambidextrous devices at all.

What's going to be 'fun' is getting used to gaming with left hand mouse, and keyboard.

(waits for the giggles from all friends on list from Oz to stop)

Worked flawlessly, used Titanium Back Up pro to make full image back up, apps and hidden system files, and OEM rom. The rooting tool has been removed from Android market very recently (I mean like within a day, maybe two days) but it's still available.

Next step, flash the rom with updated Android OS. Might not be able to get apps from Samsung market anymore, but I already looked through it. Nothing there I that I can't find on Google Android Market.

There are a few things any Android user is aware of. Limited screen space for shortcuts. I got a nifty app Launch X Pro, made 5 widgets that can be scrolled through. I could have made just one, but for now, the 5 categories work fine.

Also, I found it a bit annoying that the Launcher for my Suli didn't allow for launch screen rotation. It's capable of it, as all the programs/apps rotate. Even the crappy ePad did that much. Easily enough fixed. I tried ADW.Launcher. It worked, but it was a memory hog. Uninstalled it and tried Zeam instead. Much smaller footprint and memory use is much less, too.

Also, the Kindle App for android issue: the support guy for Kindle has tried to say that because the Kindle App wasn't preinstalled, that is why I have problems with some ebooks. Have found out that other people who have Android phones or tablets without it preinstalled aren't having this problem, but it's a known issue. But since it affects only a small percentage of Android Users, they aren't going to bother trying to fix it.

Fine, I will just keep 'convincing' the e-books I buy to play nice. It's not something I want to do, but more like painted into a corner to do so.
