After weeks of listening to that yapping machine of a neighbors dog, barking incessantly from 8am until after 7 pm almost every f&&king day, I lost it. Not in some major going nuclear.

I went to my bedroom window which looks out into our back yard, which is abutted by theirs, and yelled "Would you PLEASE quiet your DOG!"

Suddenly, blessed silence ensues.

If I have to do this every damned day, I will. I have had enough stress headaches that have blossomed into migraines from this constant nuisance.

We have three neighbours with dogs. One used to bark a lot as a puppy, but settled down and doesn't make any noise unless it thinks there's an intruder. Another has a yappy dog, but they keep it inside. The third recently picked up a spaniel and they seem to let it out some time between 11pm and around midnight for a pee and a yap. And it yaps and yaps, usually in that moment when I'm finally drifting off to sleep. So, a couple of nights ago I burst out there at around midnight and yelled at it to shut up. Haven't heard a thing since.

I think the trick to neighbourly harmony is to address the dog rather than the owner. Of course, if the owner is worse than the dog you just yell at them too.

Oh I have. I even know the precious pup's name (said through gritted teeth). I sent owners a polite letter, letting them know that their poor dog was so lonely and bored, that it barked almost non-stop when they weren't at home. They sent me "Oh you must be mistaken, not OUR precious Misty." in reply

Dog started barking when they were home, I whistled and said "Hey Misty, go lay down girl!" and the dog (and the owners) got quiet.

Unfortunately the calling of the dog isn't working anymore.

Sounds like you need option B - a stereo with a thumping bass speaker. Download a few SFX of savage dobermann barking and point the satellite speakers over the fence. Misty will probably shit herself and cower in their garage for a week, and if the owners complain you can just inform them YOU have a new dog. (And can it play with Misty?)

I've been dealing with the same problem for months...MONTHS...!!!

Talked to owner, owner bought bark collar, apparently owner must activate collar but is never around so dog barks.
Owner expects us to come around and tell him when the dog is barking...what? is he deaf? I'm not into getting dressed and walking next door for an unpleasant confrontation!
I yell at the dog but it's only good for ten minutes and then he starts in again. I'm starting to consider saltshot and that's a horrible thought.

Well, I do have a mini water cannon... although with the temp at 18 degrees and I'm not sure that wouldn't qualify as cruelty (to me and the dog).

I HATE that dog! At least when mine barks she has a reason...

Feel free to shout all you like :)

Aikidomayland gets upset at ME if I yell but he has no idea what it's like listening to that yap yap yap from just after 7am until after 6pm or later.

But, you have a longbow for those situations.. with some tranquilizer arrows..

Might consider a blow gun and tranquilizer darts instead. Arrows are too easily identifiable. ;)
