It's not the policy and it's just not done. He chanted that over and over during an interview with reporters.
But here is a former Air Force member, Major Mike Almy, whose PRIVATE emails were searched while he was serving in Iraq, and he was summarily discharged. Major Almy testified about this, and McCain was there during the testimony.
The MILITARY violated the DADT policy by actively seeking to discover if the Major was gay by breaking into his private email account and going through them looking for evidence. Upon reading his emails, he was then unceremoniously discharged for violating DADT when the military was the one who violated it.
So, Sen. McCain is either a liar, or senile.. or maybe deaf.
