Oh wow, this was just so worth it.
Dec. 5th, 2005 04:36 pmI love Amazon dot com. A spate of nostalgia Brought on by reading that Gordon Lightfoots' ballad "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" was 30 yrs old, I had a hankering to llisten to one of his albums I used to have, "Summertime Dream". I asked around local music stores, and it was all I could do not to have my jaw hit the floor, and my eyes bug out when they quoted me prices for this rather old, yet wonderful compilation.
Off to Amazon dot com. I had actually looked there to get a book, but on the off chance I searched for Summertime Dream. Even with the postage, I got it for less than 1/2 the price the music stores wanted. If it weren't for the postage, 1/5 the cost.
Now I am listening to the music, and once again am amazed that, with a few exceptions, the differences between what used to be called musicians to what is now called musicians. A lot of the ones on the market these days are 'popstars', and if it wasn't for a frequency modulating soundboard, they wouldn't even be that. 30yrs on and Gordon Lightfoots music is remembered. Silly fantasy perfume commercials aside, bets how well remembered Twitney Sneers will be?
